An honorary doctorate will be awarded to James “Jim” R. Provost at Fresno State’s 107th commencement that begins at 9 a.m. on May 19 at the Save Mart Center.
Fresno State President Joseph I. Castro will confer the honorary doctorate upon the authority of the California State University Board of Trustees in recognition of Provost’s contributions throughout his professional career.
Provost, who will be awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science degree, is a professional engineer and the founding principal of Provost and Pritchard Engineering Group Inc. During his career, he worked on hundreds of complex engineering projects that required substantial research, assessment, design and implementation. These projects have positively impacted the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in California.
Provost was born in Fresno and attended Fresno schools. He is a 1962 graduate of Fresno State’s Lyles College of Engineering, from which he received a degree in civil engineering.
In 2008, the Fresno State Alumni Association honored him as Top Dog for the Lyles College.
