UPDATE (10/14 – 9 a.m.): The Rainbow Alumni and Allies Club Tailgate is sold out.
(October 13, 2016) — Books and football will be among the highlights of Fresno State’s Homecoming Game as the Fresno County Public Library will be in the Bulldog Stadium, where mascot Timeout will sign up for his own public library card during a tailgate celebration at 4:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14.
With Homecoming Week in full swing on campus leading up to the Bulldogs game versus San Diego State at 7 p.m., activities range from the “Paint the Town Red” Office Decorating Contest judging earlier today to the Top Dog Outstanding Alumni Awards Gala Saturday night in the Save Mart Center.
Joining in the fun is the Fresno County Library WithOutWalls (WOW!) Team, that will set up a WOW! Pop-UP Library at the Toyota Drive Tailgate area in the Red Lot (Gate 6 off Cedar). Fresno County residents who drop by can apply for and receive a public library card on the spot – as Timeout will do at 4:45 p.m.
The public library sets up its pop-up library at various events throughout the region to provide information, resources and materials specially curated to each event. Library card applications are available and cards can be issued on site. Friday’s Homecoming pop-up will include materials on athletics, exercise, cooking and food and drink. The WOW! Team will be staffed by community librarians Fae Giffen and Michelle Gordon, along with Rocky Vang, community relations analyst.
“The Fresno County Library would like to thank Fresno State for showing how important it is for everyone, including Time Out, to have a library card,” said Laurel Prysiazny, Fresno County librarian.
Dr. Peter McDonald, dean of library services at Fresno State, said he is glad to see Timeout expand his horizons and help Fresno County Public Library promote its message to the Red Wave.
“We are so pleased that Timeout, who is a frequent visitor to the Henry Madden Library, smartly realizes that a Fresno County Public Library card gets him into the smartest buildings in town,” McDonald said.
Among the other Homecoming action is the 6th annual Family Weekend hosted by the Fresno State Dog Days Program, Oct. 14-16 with several events. The activities provide families and friends a chance to experience campus and gather information about how they can support students. For information about package prices, see the event schedule at http://bit.ly/2dm30So or contact Kenneth Ternate at kternate@csufresno.edu.
Students will celebrate with the Associated Students, Inc.’s Homecoming Student Tailgate on the Beiden Field Concourse (across from the Bulldog Stadium eastside student entrance) at 5 p.m. Friday, where they can receive free snacks and a free shirt.
The Rainbow Alumni and Allies Club Tailgate celebrates the 30th anniversary of United Student Pride from 3-6 p.m. in the Purple Lot (at North Gym on Barstow east of Cedar). For ticket prices and availability, make reservations online at: www.fresnostatealumni.com
Today (Oct. 13), judging took place for the Staff Assembly Executive Committee Homecoming 16 Office Decorating Contest that has been in full gear all week with the theme “Paint the Town Red.”
Employees and students have been decorating offices in red and Bulldog gear to show their team spirit. The winning office, which will be announced at the monthly Red Friday rally held in the USU Pavilion 9-10 a.m. tomorrow (Oct. 14), will receive the Bulldog Award to display for the coming year. The University Courtyard is the three-time reigning champ.
