Fresno State football fans will be able to enjoy all-beef hot dogs produced on campus for the first time at Bulldogs football home games this fall.
Produced by the Fresno State Meat Lab, the quarter-pound, eight-inch hot dogs were developed by Fresno State students and staff this past year.
“We’re proud to be able to partner with Pardini’s to give our fans a true Bulldog-inspired hot dog at our games,” said Dr. John Henson, Fresno State meat science professor and unit manager. “Our students spent a year doing research and development with different spice combinations and processing techniques to perfect the best-tasting, juiciest and most tender product possible.”
The product was created by Henson and his students with the theme, “Supporting the Future of California Ag, One Link at a Time.”
Football fans will get their first opportunity to taste the hot dogs at the home opener vs. Abilene Christian at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3.
Campus-made pints of Fresno State vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and cookies and cream ice cream will also be available at concession stands at home football games.
Proceeds from both products support the educational mission of the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology. Its 1,000-acre campus farm features products from 20 enterprises ranging from animal production, food and dairy processing units, grapes, horticulture, tree fruit and nuts, vegetables and field crops to give students hands-on, fork-to-farm training.
Bulldogs hot dogs and Fresno State ice cream are also available for purchase at the Gibson Farm Market (5388 N. Chestnut). The meats unit hopes to also sell Bulldogs hot dogs at other campus sporting events and local stores and area restaurants this year.
The Gibson Farm Market also carries a chili cheese flavor hot dog and a host of other meat products that include 16 varieties of sausages along with beef sticks, jerky, salami and other cuts of beef, chicken, lamb and pork.
Free samples of Fresno State salami will be available at the Gibson Farm Market to celebrate National Salami Day from noon-2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8.
