More than 30 Fresno State entrepreneurial students will present business ideas to judges and the public as part of 157 Entrepreneurship Expo, 10 a.m. – noon, Tuesday May 5 at the University Business Center (UBC) on the Fresno State campus. Now in its second year, the event is sponsored by the Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
With the help of Fresno State graphic design students, the budding entrepreneurs have developed marketing materials and displays showcasing their business concepts to be showcased at the event.
Participants in the expo are students of “Entrepreneurship 157 – New Venture Laboratory,” taught by Nelson Sebra, entrepreneur in residence at the Lyles Center. Sebra created the event last year to give students an opportunity to market their business at a real-life trade show.
“The experience of presenting your business to a live audience is invaluable,” Sebra said. “It’s a great culmination to our class and gives students a chance to put what they’ve learned during the semester to good use.”
Each student recorded video pitches for their business ideas. The videos will play throughout the expo in the theater adjacent to the Gottschalks Gallery at the UBC.
“I am super excited to showcase the business that we worked so hard on this semester,” said Shannon Sill, owner of BrickWall Baking Co. and a presenter at the expo. “It’s a good opportunity to see if my idea is going to be feasible. I want to be able to start, expand and grow in the Valley; take it from where I am at home and build it with an end result of a bakery café.”
The event is free and open to the public.
