Six local organizations have been selected to distribute 159 hams to families in need this holiday season for Fresno State’s 2nd annual Helping Hams campaign.
They will pick up the hams at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19 at the Rue and Gwen Gibson Farm Market on campus (5368 N. Chestnut Ave.) with the assistance of students from the Fresno State Gun Club.
The local agencies are Fresno State Student Cupboard, Fresno State Food Recovery Network, Bulldog Pantry, El Dorado Park Boys and Girls Club, Fresno County Department of Behavioral Health, Perinatal Program and The Poverello House.
These organizations were selected by Fresno State’s student government, Associated Students Inc., which is coordinating the distribution of hams in partnership with its project co-sponsors, Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology and its student-operated Rue and Gwen Gibson Farm Market.
With the exception of the Fresno State Student Cupboard, each distributing organization has already identified which families will receive a ham.

The campaign ran from Nov. 14-Dec. 12 and raised $4,782.11 for the purchase of the 159 hams. The largest contribution was a gift of $3,000 from RCO Ag Credit, Inc., an agriculture finance company based in Fresno.
For the selection process of distribution agencies, an Associated Students, Inc. ad hoc committee of student leaders evaluated applications and selected the finalists based on the organization’s connection to Fresno State, client population served and overall need.
