Three new Fresno State “Art and Science” wines will be unveiled and graphic design student Lori Kirby will be honored for creating the winning label at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, before the Fig Garden Wine Walk.
Following the presentation, the wines will be poured and tasted for the first time during the wine walk from 5-8 p.m. The event concludes Fresno State’s “SIP-tember” tasting tour commemorating California Wine Month. The Fresno State Winery booth is located at the entrance to the wine walk in front of CVS.
There is no cost to attend the pre-wine walk presentation. Guests can purchase a $25 ticket for the Fig Garden Wine Walk to sample wines from more than 20 California wineries as well as food pairings from multiple restaurants. Identification is required for wine tasting.
Presented by the merchants of Fig Garden Village, the event benefits the Fresno County Habitat for Humanity.
Fresno State’s Art and Science wines include a blended white wine, Abstract Theory, and two blended red wines, Pythagorean’s Serum and Depth Perception. The Fresno State Winery partnered with 15 graphic design students who created the signature label series.
Kirby‘s creations were chosen by the winery to adorn the series bottles and she will be honored along with Rebecca Barnes, professor in the Art and Design Department.
The presentation will be made by Dr. Jim Kennedy, chair of the Viticulture and Enology Department; Kevin Smith, Fresno State Winery business and marketing manager; and Jody Gomes, student president of Unleashed Wine Club.
During the “SIP-tember” campaign, students from the Fresno State Winery poured wines at several community tastings and conducted a membership drive for Unleashed.
Wine club members will have exclusive access to the three new Art and Science wines before they are available for public purchase later in the year.
The Fresno State Winery produced a promotional video in conjunction with mass communication and journalism students as part of a public relations campaign. The parody video is at http://bit.ly/1rw0Rr4.
