The Fresno State Economics Colloquium, “The Economic Effects of Immigration and Immigration Reforms” with internationally renowned economist Dr. Giovanni Peri will be 3:30-4:45 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, in the Alice Peters Auditorium (Peters Business Building 191).
The free, public event is presented by the Department of Chicano and Latin American Studies and the Department of Economics. It is co-sponsored by the Urban and Regional Transformation Cohort and the World Cultures and Globalization Cohort.
Peri, an Economics professor at the University of California, Davis, focuses his research on the impact of immigration on the economy and immigration reform. He has written extensively about U.S. immigration as well as other countries.
His works, “Immigration, Offshoring and American Jobs” and “Immigration, Jobs and Labor Market Institutions: Evidence from Europe,” were published in the American Economic Review and the Journal of European Economic Association, respectively.
In 2013, Peri was the recipient of a TEMPO Research Network grant from the Centre for Economic Policy Research at University College London to study the Impact of Immigration Policies. In 2011 he received the Microsoft Corporation Research Gift for the study of the economic impact of highly skilled immigrants in the U.S.
He earned two doctorates in Economics: a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley and a Doctoral Degree from Bocconi University in Milano, Italy.
“Dr. Peri ‘s work has special significance in Central California as well as the entire state and we are pleased to bring someone of his international academic stature to campus,” said Dr. Annabella España-Nájera, assistant professor of Chicano and Latin American Studies who is coordinating the event with Dr. David Vera, professor of Economics.
Parking is $3 per day with permits available at dispensers. Lot P6 (formerly Lot J) on Woodrow Avenue, between Shaw and Barstow avenues, is nearest the Peters Business Building where the auditorium is located.
