Literature, music highlight Summer Arts' final week

Author Carole Maso (“Ghost Dance,” “The Art Lover’) will present a memoir reading of her works at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, at the Conley Lecture Hall.

Maso also is the award-winning author of The American Woman in the Chinese Hat, AVA, Defiance, Aureole (a book of short fictions), Break Every Rule (essays), The Room Lit by Roses (a journal of pregnancy and birth), and Beauty is Convulsive: The Passion of Frida Kahlo. She is the recipient of many awards, including a Lannan Fellowship.

Kronos, which has established a worldwide reputation for the range, quality, spirit and artistic vision of string quartet, will perform in concert at 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, at the Wright Theatre. The Kronos Quartet won a 2004 Grammy for its recorded music.

The week’s other public performances feature:

  • Flamenco guitarist Ricardo Marlow at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, at the Concert Hall in the Fresno State Music Building.

  • National Book Award winner William Vollmann (“Europe Central”) at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 24, at the Wahlberg Recital Hall in the Music Building.

The session’s student culminations – all open to the public at no charge, all on campus and all on Friday, July 25, unless noted otherwise – are as follows):
